new skirt and eggplants galore!

I pulled another late night last night. I was up sewing this: My friend who had lent me the pattern on Thursday, said that she expected to see me wearing it at church on Sunday! I couldn't let her down - so I sewed til it was finished - but she was no where to be found at church today! I'm going to have to have serious words to her!....... However, I like the way it turned out. Very comfortable wrap style that is reversible so you can wear it patterned side out, OR, for a more conservative look, plain side out. The best part is the fabrics only cost me a total of $11 from the Spotlight clearance section. Bargain. I think I might make another one in a different print. (Doug wont recognise me wearing all these skirts!!, what's next, a DRESS???, maybe not this year). Photos by Lily Smyth - thanks Lil's. On another note, check out these cute little eggplants! They all came from this one little bush. It's about all we are harvesting at the moment as everything else has really withered in the heat. But you can trust good old eggplants to kick on through the 40 degree weather. I made them into tasty eggplant, pumpkin, chickpea and cashew Korma curry!! MMmmmm ( I am taking part in Kirsty's "GO to 13" cooking challenge this week - this was meal number 1). You can read about it here: http://fourhappyviolets.blogspot.com I am going to have to get some training on how to post links properly!!

A present for a friend.

I have a friend. (Yes, it's true). And this particular friend is one of those amazing types of people who never seems to forget special occassions. I think that every year since we met in University she has sent not only myself, but also my children birthday presents, Christmas presents, and I have also received wedding anniversary cards from her! (Amazing - since half the time I almost forget when that is!). Anyway, I feel terrible that every year I fail to deliver on my intention to make and send her a birthday present! So this year, I'm getting in early! (Her birthday is not til August). HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELISE!!! Love you mate! This bag is flying to Alice Springs!!

Cute undies for a very cute bum!

What can you do with all of those scraps of knit fabrics? The off cuts that are too small to make another T-shirt or onesie? They may not look useful, BUT.......or should I say BUTT!... Oh how cute those scraps look now! I made some size 2 jocks for little Rossie! He is not quite toilet trained yet but he is getting there and it wont be long before we'll be needing a lot more of these babies, so I'd better get sewing some more!

Family resemblence

As I was staring at my fourth born in adoration yesterday afternoon, I couldn't help but feel that he reminded me of someone?....... ME!! Can you guess who is who?

Back in the saddle again.....

HELLOOOOO long lost blog! I know it's been an age since we last spoke but I have decided I really do need you in my life. I DO more with my time when I think I need to blog about it. I MAKE more stuff too! So,...I'm back. For the time being anyway, he-he. I guess you (my thousands of readers) are wondering what I have been up to since I last reported?.... Well,...In short, We have welcomed a baby boy (Bobby) into our family, bought some land to build on, been to Alice Springs for a wedding, and sold our beloved home! Quite a lot really in amongst all the other stuff. So here begins 2012! A year to hopefully be filled with lots of sewing, gardening, family fun and, fingers crossed, a new home by Christmas! To start us off, some sewing.... I have been very lucky to have been on the receiving end of 3 large boxes of hand-me-down clothing for the boys. (THANK YOU ALEX!) On sorting these clothes I came across a very cute T-shirt that was unfortunately stained on the neckline. I couldn't bear to throw out such a cute monster, so I cut him out, and re-purposed him into a p.j. top! My intention was to make these pj's for Alex's boy Lauchlan, who is about 6 months older than Ross, but when I tried them on Ross, I realized the top was probably already too short for Lauchlan, so I think I'll keep them for Ross and make Lauchlan something else. (Ross has always looked cute in yellow anyway - his favourite colour at the moment).
